Brighton to Brentford walk: Information for walkers

The organisers of the Brighton to Brentford walk have issued the following information to all those taking part:

  • Walkers travelling down in the Mini buses to arrive at 12.15 to 12.30 for a 13.00 departure at Griffin Park/Princess Royal.
  • At present we have three hired mini buses and one Brentford FC mini bus.
  • Those watching the FA Cup Final to find a venue to watch the game. No venue allowed our number to watch the game.
    *** We strongly advise that no alcohol be consumed! It will impair your ability to complete the walk ***
  • Everyone to meet at 17.30 at the South Pier opposite the Sea Life Centre for an 18.00 start of the walk on main parade. Terry Butcher will be joining us here too.
  • Additional route plans to be given out if required. All walkers will have a mobile list for support drivers and other walkers on the route.
  • One mini bus will have ALL bags.
  • No donated food/drink to be consumed before midnight. Everyone is responsible for eating/drinking before the walk and bringing food or purchasing the food on route up until this time.
  • High Visibility jackets to be given out at junction of A23/A281 – These MUST be worn until the light is sufficient the next day.
  • Recommended to bring a torch ideally a head torch.
  • Suggested that Waterproofs be carried by walkers i.e. tied around the waist
  • All mini buses will have First Aid equipment, such as plasters, painkillers, antiseptic cream.
  • If walkers pull out they will stay in a mini bus until the bus is full and will then be taken back to Brentford. From there walkers will have to make their own way home. The mini bus has to return to the course at the earliest convenience.
  • If items are needed from the support bag mini bus a call is to be made to: John Anderson who will then send the bus at its earliest convenience – please bear in mind the bus may be several miles away.
  • All medication is to be carried with the walker and NOT left in the van. Spare medication can be left on the Bag Mini Bus.
  • Please inform Alan Gilding of any specific medical requirements. IMPORTANT NOTE If anyone has any allergies i.e. bites, penicillin, peanuts etc they must inform us. This will be included on the disclaimer form.
  • There are three meeting points – Box Hill, Hampton Court/Bushy Park and Kew Green
  • An 18.00 on Sunday a presentation is planned at Griffin Park on the pitch. The order of introduction will be less than 20 miles, 20 – 30 miles, 30 – 40 miles, 40 – 50 miles, 50 – 60 miles and finally those who completed the whole walk. Please invite relatives, friends and other supporters to cheer you and other walkers for their achievements.
  • We have use of the dressing rooms – Males in the home and females in the away. It is recommended that walkers bring a set of clean and warm change of clothes and shower gear.
  • We hope to provide food in either The Hive or the Princess Royal after the presentation – this will be confirmed on Saturday.
