At the monitoring meeting of the Chiswick Area Committee on Wednesday 21 March, Brentford Football Club (BFC) introduced its ideas for a new stadium on old railway land at Lionel Road, which is in Brentford but near the boundary with Chiswick.

The club had been talking to potential partners about a development in line with the proposals for the site that were included in the Council's Brentford Area Action Plan consultation document in 2006.

The proposed concept for the stadium would also include a health centre and a new indoor sports centre to replace the Fountains Leisure Centre, which needs investment to modernise the facilities. Any plans for the Fountains would have to be the subject of negotiation with Hounslow Council.

BFC Director, Brian Burgess, told the Committee that the plans were still at a very early stage. No deals had yet been done to secure ownership of the site or with commercial developers to provide the enabling development required to fund a 20,000-seat stadium.

The club were keen however to open a dialogue with the local councillors and residents to ensure that appropriate consultation could take place as the project developed. Under the majority ownership of Bees United, the supporters' trust, Brentford wanted to be seen as a good neighbour and a valued resource for the community.
