Lionel Road

Brentford Football Club has, for many years, endeavoured to secure a new stadium that provides improved supporter amenities, community facilities and a range of commercial opportunities.

In November 2002, Bees United unveiled plans for a 20,000-capacity community stadium at Lionel Road, a triangle of land close to Kew Bridge, just a short distance from the Club's current Griffin Park stadium.

Plans for the site have significant political support – locally and nationally – and Bees United believes it has every reason to think it can achieve its goal.

In conjunction with Barratt Homes, the project will provide a flagship model of a community-owned stadium hub. This will enable Bees United and Brentford FC to build on the strong foundation of the club’s renowned Football in the Community scheme and the Griffin Park Learning Zone.

Facilities

  • Modern 20,000 seat stadium for football and rugby
  • Local authority indoor sports centre, including swimming pools, sports and exercise halls and related facilities
  • Health centre accommodating GPs, dentists, health visitors, district nurses, physiotherapy and complementary therapies.
  • This can be integrated with sports, education and cultural activities to create a healthy-living centre
  • Social enterprise business centre supported by Community Action Network
  • Hotel and Commercial Leisure to create an attractive leisure destination for visitors
  • Learning Zone

Brentford FC (Lionel Road) Ltd

To create specific responsibility for this project, a subsidiary company has been established called Brentford FC (Lionel Road) Ltd. The company has two shareholders:

  • Brentford FC Ltd with a 99% interest

  • Brentford Football Community Society Ltd (Bees United) with one ‘golden’ share, giving certain veto rights over the actions of Brentford FC (Lionel Road) Limited. In particular this golden share, which represents 1% of the issued share capital, gives Bees United the right to a veto over any issue or transfer of shares, the disposal of assets over a material level, the use of land for any purpose other than that of a sports stadium, the charging of assets, the implementation of any liquidation proceedings and the payment of any dividends. In addition Bees United has the right to appoint a minimum of one director to the board of Brentford FC (Lionel Road) Limited.

The directors of the company are Greg Dyke (Chairman), Brian Burgess, Chris Gammon (Company Secretary), Mike Power and Donald Kerr.
