Supporter Director "Election" PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 02 July 2004

Press Release issued by Bees United on the forthcoming elections of an additional Club director Bees United, The Brentford FC Supporters' Trust, is to hold elections to nominate a supporter onto the Club's board.

Because of the financial difficulties suffered by the Club, it has received financial support from its fans, via Bees United, in the form of loans over the last three years. These loans have now increased to a
level which automatically triggers the entitlement to appoint another director to the Club's board.

The elected candidate will be nominated to join three existing Bees United nominees on the club board; John McGlashan, Andrew Wainwright and Stephen Callen.

The nomination will be subject to acceptance by the the existing Club board for appointment as an unsalaried non-executive director. Following the appointment, Bees United nominees will account for four of the Club's seven directors.

Bees United chairman Brian Burgess said that the move would reinforce the role fans play in the running of the club: 'By electing a board member from the ranks of the Supporters' Trust, we create a very real atmosphere of accountability throughout the Club and Bees United. Obviously fans can't have input on each and every decision made by the Club and there remain areas of confidentiality. However with Bees United representatives on the Club's board, we can be assured that decisions on the long-term future of Brentford FC are being taken with fans' interests at the fore,' he said.

Nominations for the election close on 19 July. Under normal company law, the nominated individual appointed by the Club board will be subject to ratification by shareholders at the next company Annual General Meeting in a few months time.
