The Bees United nominees on the Brentford FC board comprise: Greg Dyke (Chairman), Jon Gosling (Supporter Director), David Merritt and Alan Bird. The latter two have been recently (November 2007) appointed to the board, and below are their personal statements on their background and qualities. Alan Bird Background An experienced Chief Executive Officer/ Chief Financial Officer who in the past 32 years has managed five large industrial and commercial groups of companies. Four of the groups have assets in excess of US $750million and with up to three thousand employees . From 1987-1995 Executive Director of two substantial subsidiaries of a US public company whose shares are quoted on the NYSE. Retired in December 1999 but since January 2000 CEO of small Arab owned group (turnover €25million; employees 84) based in Paris to assist a long time Saudi friend of mine. He had been having problems and asked if I would sort them out as a personal favour to him. That took only a few months but he asked me to stay on effectively on any conditions that I wished to oversee the group. It has been running itself for years but the owner is more relaxed if he knows that I am keeping an eye on things. Personal history Age 67. Married 44 years. Lives in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey and Paris, France. Brentford FC supporter since 1947 Observations I believe that my background and experience is beneficial to Bees United in trying to restore the finances of the club and ensure that the business is run as effectively as possible. David Merritt I have a history with Brentford supporters' organisations. He was one of the original team of four that re-launched BIAS (the independent supporters association, www.bias.org.uk), back in the days of Ron Noades. He was the first BIAS representative to attend a meeting on supporters' trusts, the start of a process that eventually led to the creation of Bees United. Born in 1973, I am a qualified accountant, has a degree in Accounting and Law, and has an MBA from London Business School. He works in the business services sector, and has undertaken a number of Finance, Commercial, Operations and Managing Director roles. He lives in Chiswick with his wife and young daughter. I was co-opted onto the Board of Bees United in early 2007 before being confirmed by election in the latter part of 2007. He was then selected by the Board of BU to be Chair, and also to be one of their representatives on the Board of Brentford Football Club.
